Haunted in Illinois

by Terry Sullivan - Lyons-Sullivan Realty

Less than two hours to the scare of your life

Ready for a good scare? Livingston County knows the fear of a superb haunted house and looks forward to Henry Street Horrors each year.

Unfortunately, our own personal fright maestros are taking the year off. From the Henry Street Horrors website:

Henry Street Horrors will not be open in 2015

Posted on September 16, 2015

Sadly, due to a lack of help, Henry Street Horrors will not be open for the 2015 season. The cast & crew of Henry Street Horrors are planning on taking this year off to reorganize, re-energize & recruit so that we can hopefully come back in 2016 & put on a great haunted house.

Plant a Money Tree

by Terry Sullivan - Lyons-Sullivan Realty

Tree planting season has arrived! It may seem odd to be putting in trees when leaves are falling, but late spring and early fall are the best times to plant new trees on your property.

Did you know that planting trees makes your home more valuable? An article on HGTV.com says  that “a Clemson University study found that homeowners get a 100 percent or more return on the money they put into landscaping.”

The Wall Street Journal reports, “In an analysis of 2,608 real-estate transactions over 10 months, researchers found that homes with ‘street trees’ those planted between the sidewalk and street, sold for $7,130 more, on average, than homes without street trees.”)

The number of trees on your lot is also important. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, “18 percent of repeat buyers and 25 percent of buyers purchasing a new home said that being on a wooded lot or on a lot with many trees was very important to them, according to National Association of REALTORS®' home buyer and seller surveys.”

Before you can increase your property value by more than $7,000, you need to determine what type of tree will fit your property and your part of the country.

Luckily, the Arbor Day Foundation has created a tree finder that takes the guesswork out of all aspects of choosing a tree. From determining your hardiness zone to types of trees, sizes of trees, growth rate and type of soil, you can’t miss when you try out their Tree Wizard.

The best news is that if you join the Arbor Day Foundation, they will send you 10 free trees to get started on beautiful landscaping in your yard.

Once you receive your trees or purchase trees from a nursery or home improvement store, you will need to learn how to plant them, as good planting makes for good plants.

According to tree-planting.com, moderate temperatures and rainfall are ideal conditions for new trees to take root. Additionally, giving the tree time before the harsh winter freeze will ensure healthy roots.

While digging a hole is instrumental to tree planting, there are a few other steps that will help your tree to root properly and grow strong. Check out this informational video on youtube.com
